Judo for the Blind – Classification
This is a brief overview of the sport and is in no way legally binding. In all cases the sport specific classification rules will take precedence.
DETERMINING ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, athletes have less than 10 per cent visual acuity remaining or a visual field restricted to 40 degrees diameter.
A red circle on the sleeve of their Judogi indicates an athlete who is completely blind.
Athletes compete in weight categories independent of their vision impairment.
Athletes with Vision Impairment have reduced, or no vision caused by damage to the eye structure, optical nerves or optical pathways, or visual cortex of the brain.
Examples of an Underlying Health Condition that may lead to Vision Impairment include retinitis pigmentosa and diabetic retinopathy.
